Chipper

is an 11-track solo album I began working on in 2017. Musically, it was influenced by what I was listening to at the time: shoegaze(especially My Bloody Valentine), bedroom pop, and lofi/noise groups like Neutral Milk Hotel and The Microphones. Its sound was also very much a product of my limited experience recording on my laptop, and limited experience in general, as it was my first time recording and mixing more than one song at a time.

Its lyrics were very personal, documenting a transitional period of my life, filled with depression, anger, and uncertainty. Lines bounce from idea to idea, rambling around unhealthy trains of thought and mental loops. I tried to translate this mindset into music as well, with dissonant arrangements and sudden shifts in tone.

Sadly, my laptop was stolen in the summer of 2019, and with no backups, I had to scrap the thing entirely. It was in the final stages of recording and mixing, so it was especially disappointing, but by that time I no longer felt connected to the words I had written a year and a half before. I bought a new notebook, closed the old one for good, and moved on with my creativity.

I present Chipper now as a reminder to myself to follow-through with creative projects in one way or another. I have a bit of a problem with getting stuff out there. Even if no one will ever hear it, I'm happy that Chipper can find a home, and for a little gratification for the hours and hours I put into this thing.

Curse1/Susan

is an early version of a 2-song single I planned on releasing prior to the whole album. The only surviving tracks.
